Headshot of Gaylena Bivens

Gaylena is a Therapist at the Personal Wellness Center and has over thirty years of experience working with families and children primarily in the area of child and adult maltreatment and crisis intervention. She believes in holistic and strength-based approaches to therapy; as she feels everyone has an inner-strength and self-determination that will allow them to experience a sense of balance during times of adversity. She also believes it is important to address all aspects of the clients’ life as outside influences can interfere and/or contribute to the healing process.

Gaylena obtained her bachelor’s of social work from Salisbury State College (Salisbury University) and her master’s in social work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. In addition, Gaylena has a Ph.D in Organizational Leadership from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

What does "redefining wellness" mean to you?

To me, redefining wellness means the inclusion of non-traditional and holistic therapeutic approaches to connect the emotional, spiritual and physical well-being of an individual in order to create balance in one’s life.
